Welcome back, folks! I’ve got a treat for you today - it’s time to dive into some LORE!
We all know that Elios is the guardian dragon of Sun Haven. And those of you that have been paying attention also know that Nivara is the guardian dragon of Nel’Vari. But today’s the day I shed a little light on what it means to be a guardian dragon and how dragons came to be guardians in the first place.
First of all, you need to know that a dragon is a being of incredible power, and when I talk about power I’m really referring to energy. The latent energy surrounding a dragon is enough to cause change in the world - which was a huge problem for people in ancient times.
Thousands of years ago, the world was embroiled with cataclysmic events that followed dragons wherever they went. It wasn’t the intent of the dragons per se, but simply a byproduct of their existence.
It happened that a dragon came upon a hidden Human village, and everything changed. This dragon was trailing a firestorm, which it knew would destroy the Human village. So, feeling some responsibility to the humans (not to mention pity for these tiny, weak creatures), the dragon took them under its wing and protected them through the storm.
This was the first sign of dragonian benevolence; dragons in their nature are in fact reasonable and noble, a fact that spread across civilizations and became a known truth of all dragons… well, almost all dragons.
After that firestorm, the humans offered the dragon their praise and worship as their savior. The dragon felt a sense of duty toward them - not to mention, dragons are quite fond of being worshipped - so the dragon stayed to guard the humans against the dangers of the world.
Yes, in a sense this was physical protection. But even moreso, it was about energy.
The dragon focused its energy around the humans to cease the atmospheric storms and disasters. This intentional direction of energy is now referred to as a dragon’s blessing. A dragon’s blessing can do many things, from purifying water sources to enhancing the growth of crops. But most significantly, when a dragon’s blessing is passed directly onto an individual person…
Well, let’s just say it enacts a change in the deepest parts of that person. Depending on the soul, the dragon’s blessing could alter the course of one’s very life.
I hope you got a kick out of this snippet of lore! You can consider this the “historical context” of Sun Haven, which takes place well after these events.
